NEST Statement: Black Lives Matter

As Northside’s community development corporation, NEST firmly believes that the Black lives of our neighbors matter. The diversity of our neighborhood is its most valuable asset.

In order to fulfill our mission of ensuring Northside thrives as a vibrant and sustainable community, we recognize that we need to do a better job of including representation from the Black community on our Board of Directors. NEST focuses on preserving, improving and creating the neighborhood’s housing and built environment. We understand how important this work is to combatting structural racism in our neighborhood and our city. It is critical that the current leadership of our organization better reflect the racial diversity of our neighborhood.

We recognize the blind spots a lack of diversity can create and are committed to adding more Black voices to NEST’s board to broaden our impact and perspective. Along with the effort to bring more diversity to our organization, NEST will continue to identify additional ways to weave inclusion and diversity into all of our work. As we undertake this effort, we welcome your recommendation or your own interest in serving on NEST’s board and being a part of our work.

Information about NEST’s Board

Our board is composed of individuals with many professional and skill backgrounds - all expertise is welcome! We particularly are in need of people with Social Media Management, Fundraising and/or Event Planning experience, but the most important asset is your commitment to bettering Northside. The board meets once a month and every board member is on a sub-committee that has an additional monthly meeting.
